Ahmedabad gets Rain ; Gandhinagar and Parts of North Gujarat get Heavy rains
June 19, 2025
Update at 9 am: The city was lashed by heavy rain last night, with the average downpour from 10 pm on June 18 to 5 am today recorded at 2.38 inches. The highest rainfall was reported in Ramol (3.7 inches), followed by Nikol (3.6 inches) and Kathwada (3.4 inches) — all located in the east zone of the city.
According to data from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), the east zone received the highest rainfall during the night with an average of 3.3 inches, followed by the north zone, where areas like Memco, Naroda, and Kubernagar recorded 2.9 inches of rain over the 7-hour period ending at 5 am today.
Due to the continuous and heavy rain, the Akhbar Nagar and Mithakhali underpasses were closed for vehicular traffic during the night. One gate of the Vasna Barrage on the Sabarmati River was also opened by 0.25 feet to release excess water downstream.
As the rain stopped in the morning and water levels started receding from the Akhbar Nagar underpass, a car was found stuck in the middle of the water. However, questions have emerged as to how the passengers escaped the vehicle, which appeared to be sinking in the floodwater.
Waterlogging was also reported on one of the city’s busiest roads — the SG Highway, particularly near Pakwan Circle, where motorists faced difficulties due to ankle-deep water on the service road this morning.
In Sterling City, Bopal, knee-deep water (1–2 feet) had accumulated overnight, once again drawing attention to the locality’s chronic drainage problems. The area, which houses a school and a TCS exam centre, saw students and parents wading through flooded roads, causing frustration and inconvenience.
Ahmedabad: It’s raining heavily with full force in Ahmedabad city post 1.15 am on intervening night between 18th and 19th June. If it continues to rain for couple of hours or more in same way, the city may get 2 inch or more rainfall. India Meteorological Department (IMD) had released forecast for upto moderate rain in Ahmedabad. However it appears the rainfall in the city will go beyond moderate level and enter into heavy rain category(above 2.50 inch) at least in certain areas like Paldi. Meanwhile the sky is unusually roaring over Ahmedabad with frequent lightning and loud sounds.
As per the figures available at 2.00 am from the State government, Mansa in Gandhinagar district received over 3 inches rain post midnight to 2 am, followed by Gandhinagar 2.68, Dehgam 2.28, Vijapur 1.77, Prantij 1.69, Kheralu 1.57, Visnagar 1.14, Himmatnagar 0.98, Talod 0.91, Ahmedabad city 0.83. Kapadvanj, Modasa, Kalol, Vadnagar, are other areas where rainfall was witnessed. These are the parts of the North Gujarat region where heavy presence of clouds can be seen in satellite picture.
