Gujarat CM OKays ₹3,394 crore for Surat and other civic bodies

Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has given in-principle approval to allocate a total of ₹3,394.55 crore to three newly formed Municipal Corporations, Surat Municipal Corporation, and two Municipalities for various works to enhance public amenities in the towns and cities of the state.

In the Urban Development Year–2025 being celebrated in the state, the development works for which the Chief Minister has approved the allocation of funds under the Swarnim Jayanti Chief Minister Urban Development Scheme include outgrowth development, distinctive identity works, and infrastructural development works.

For this purpose, ₹3,263 crore for Surat Municipal Corporation is approved for physical infrastructure development, social infrastructure development, urban mobility, distinctive identity works, and outgrowth area development works.

From this amount, infrastructure development works such as storm drainage, water supply, tertiary treatment and recycling, lighting and energy efficiency, as well as solid waste management, will be undertaken in various zones and outgrowth areas of Surat Municipal Corporation.

In addition, in-principle approval is also given to undertake works worth ₹66.94 crore for outgrowth area development under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Urban Development Scheme.

Under this approval ₹17 crore has been approved for 35 works such as street lighting, public toilet renovation, city civic centers, park and garden development, and lake development in the outgrowth area of Nadiad Municipal Corporation.

A total of ₹17 crore has been allocated for 9 works including new water tanks, link roads, and storm drains in the outgrowth area of Anand Municipal Corporation.

Additionally, ₹28 crore has been approved for 6 water supply works in the outgrowth area of Surendranagar Municipal Corporation. Two municipalities of the state, Bharuch and Songadh, have also been approved for water tanks, rising main pipelines, and street lighting in their respective outgrowth areas. Accordingly, ₹3.99 crore will be allocated to Songadh Municipality and ₹0.95 crore to Bharuch.

Under various works to establish the distinctive identity of towns and cities, the allocation of ₹35 crore is made to Surendranagar Municipal Corporation for a total of three projects—Wadhwan Heritage City Phase-1 (Dholi Pol and Kot Diwal), Hawamahal Heritage Development, and Jhalawad Heritage Memorial and Museum Phase-1 in the Surendranagar Municipal Corporation area.

The allocation of ₹30 crore is also made to the newly formed Nadiad Municipal Corporation for similar distinctive identity works.
