Rainfall in Gujarat on Saturday; Over 3 inches of rain in just 2 hours lashes Aravalli district

Ahmedabad: A sudden and intense spell of rain lashed parts of Gujarat on Saturday, with Meghraj in Aravalli district receiving a massive 3.39 inches of rainfall in just two hours between 12 pm and 2 pm. This was the highest recorded rainfall in the state during the 8-hour period monitored by the State Emergency Operation Center from 6 am to 2 pm.
Close behind, Umarpada in Surat district recorded 3.11 inches, with most of the rain falling in a concentrated burst between 10 am and 12 pm. Sagbara in Narmada district also saw significant rainfall at 2.2 inches, followed by Modasa with 1.97 inches. Apart from these, only Kavant and Kukarmunda talukas received more than an inch of rain.
While many parts of south and central Gujarat saw scattered rainfall, light showers of less than 10 mm were recorded in major cities like Ahmedabad, Surat, and Valsad. As of 2 pm, a total of 58 talukas had reported rainfall.
Additionally, due to very heavy rain in the central Gujarat region last night, the Deo Dam in Panchmahal has been put on alert, with 2 gates of the dam opened to release over 400 cusecs of water.
Apart from that, the Sukhi Dam in Chhota Udepur has also released over 950 cusecs of water, with 2 gates opened by 0.3 meters. Notably, Jambughoda taluka in the region received over 8 inches of rain last night.
The IMD, in its forecast, has predicted widespread rain across the state for the next seven days, with some areas in north and south Gujarat likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall. DeshGujarat
