Four proposals under review for cable landing stations along Gujarat coast: Report

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government is currently in discussions with Reliance Industries Ltd and three other companies to establish a cable landing station along the State’s coastline, a news report stated.

“We are planning to set up cable landing stations in Gujarat. Proposals from four companies are under review,” said Mona Khandhar, Principal Secretary of the Science and Technology Department, Government of Gujarat, in a statement to BusinessLine.

A cable landing station is a facility where international submarine cables—laid on the ocean floor to carry internet and data traffic between countries—connect to the land-based internet infrastructure. It serves as the gateway for global data transmission, linking undersea networks with local telecom and data systems.

Khandhar noted that two proposals are for landing stations in the Saurashtra region and the other two in South Gujarat, all from private firms.

The report also stated that there are currently 17 cable landing stations in India, located in cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Kochi, Thoothukudi, and Thiruvananthapuram. Key players in this sector include Tata Communications, Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Sify Technologies, and BSNL. DeshGujarat
