Surat Police’s official X account hacked, cyber cell launches probe
July 01, 2025
Surat: In a major cyber security lapse, the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the Surat Police was hacked by an unknown individual. The hacker changed the account name to “Surat Arena Police” and uploaded objectionable videos, leaving both citizens and authorities shocked.
The incident also sparked serious concerns over the vulnerability of government-run digital systems, especially those managed by agencies tasked with public security.
The police, in a public notice, said, “The account of Surat Police has been hacked, and the video uploaded on June 23rd was not uploaded by Surat Police. Action in this regard is underway.”
“We have halted all further activity on the account and are now in control,” said a spokesperson from Surat Police Headquarters.
“This isn’t just a case of social media hacking — it’s a direct blow to the integrity of law enforcement,” noted a senior official from the Surat Cyber Cell.
Meanwhile, the Cyber Cell of Surat Police is leading the probe. “We are tracking IP addresses and the hacker’s digital trail. No matter how sophisticated the attacker is, they will be caught,” said an officer from the Cyber Cell.
Initial findings suggest that the hack may have been routed through international IP addresses to disguise the attacker’s origin — a common tactic in high-profile cyberattacks. However, officials remain confident about identifying those responsible. DeshGujarat
