122 students fall ill with eye irritation at Gandhinagar residential school
July 02, 2025
Ahmedabad: A total of 122 students from JB Desai Vidya Mandir, a residential school in Zak village near Dehgam in Gandhinagar district, experienced eye-related issues on Monday evening. Complaints included red eyes, irritation, blurred vision, and excessive watering. The affected students were promptly taken to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital for medical care.
The incident occurred around 4 pm, shortly after the students had consumed their afternoon meal of laddu, dal, rice, chapati, and curries. Soon after eating, several students began reporting eye discomfort, which quickly spread among others.
The health authorities have collected samples of food, water, and blood and are awaiting lab results to determine the cause. However, it is learnt that the school is located near an industrial zone, suggesting a possible chemical leak or gas exposure.
According to hospital officials, all but two students were discharged by Tuesday evening. DeshGujarat
