Gujarat rolls out Ring-Fencing Digital Wallet Transfer System: 50K women to benefit
July 03, 2025
Gandhinagar: In a time when women’s participation is growing significantly across all sectors, the state government has launched an initiative to enhance women’s economic empowerment. Under this scheme, assistance will be provided to 50,000 women from Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) card-holding families in 13 identified aspirational talukas and 2 aspirational districts. The scheme was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 8, 2025.
As part of this effort, the Gujarat government has introduced a unique ‘Ring-Fencing Digital Wallet Transfer’ system through the Gujarat Livelihood Promotion Company Ltd. (GLPC) under the Rural Development Department, as part of the G-SAFAL scheme. For the first time in the state, such a system is being implemented, wherein financial assistance will be directly transferred to the individual digital wallets of beneficiary women. With the ring-fencing mechanism, the assistance amount remains secure and can be used strictly for the designated livelihood activities, ensuring it is not diverted elsewhere.
As per the official statement, in the first phase of this initiative, 674 women have received livelihood assistance through digital wallets, with the system ensuring complete security, transparency, and targeted usage of funds. By the end of the year, around 28,000 women are expected to benefit from this digital wallet transfer system. This initiative under the Gujarat government’s G-SAFAL scheme is expected to play a vital role in the economic empowerment of women from the state’s most vulnerable families. DeshGujarat
