Ahmedabad: In a move to boost road connectivity, the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) has approved the rezoning of 196 hectares of land, paving the way for two major road projects that were stalled due to agricultural zoning restrictions. The proposal has been sent to the state government for final approval.

One of the proposed roads will link the 15-km stretch from Karnavati Club to the Sanand-Viramgam Highway via the villages of Godhavi, Kaneti, and Nidhrad, which fall in the restricted zone. Meanwhile, the other is a 45-metre-wide DP road connecting Ghuma to Rancharda through villages such as Manipur, Palodia, and Shilaj. Portions of these roads fall under agricultural zones, which has prevented land acquisition and halted development.

To overcome this, AUDA’s board has approved the rezoning of 116 hectares near Godhavi-Nidhrad and another 80 hectares behind Ghuma. Once the state gives its nod, AUDA will initiate Town Planning (TP) schemes, enabling land acquisition and construction work. This is expected to ease traffic flow on the busy SG Highway corridor.
