Ahmedabad tops as Cleanest Big City in Swachh Survekshan Awards; Surat among Super Swachh League cities

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu conferred the Swachh Survekshan 2024–25 Awards for urban cleanliness at a national ceremony organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, today.

In the latest rankings, Ahmedabad emerged as India’s Cleanest Big City (population over 10 lakh), while Surat secured second place among the Super Swachh League cities, following Indore from Madhya Pradesh.

In the Million-Plus Cities category (population over 10 lakh), Indore, Surat, Navi Mumbai, and Vijayawada were honoured under the Super Swachh League Cities award. Ahmedabad, Bhopal, and Lucknow received awards as the Top 3 cleanest cities in the same category.

Now in its ninth edition, Swachh Survekshan (SS) 2024–25 is the world’s largest urban cleanliness survey and serves as a key pillar of the Swachh Bharat Mission–Urban (SBM-U). The event celebrated cities that have made exceptional progress in urban sanitation and cleanliness, recognising the efforts of urban local bodies across the country.

This year’s awards were presented across four major categories: Super Swachh League (SSL) Cities; the top three cleanest cities in five different population categories; special categories including Ganga Towns, Cantonment Boards, SafaiMitra Suraksha, and Mahakumbh; and State-Level Awards for Promising Clean Cities of States and Union Territories. In total, 78 awards were presented during the ceremony. DeshGujarat
