Pothole-ridden stretch of Rajkot Ring Road-2 leaves motorists struggling daily

Rajkot: The condition of a key stretch of the city’s Ring Road-2, from Kankot to the Gondal Road intersection, has become a nightmare for motorists. This road, used daily by around 20,000 commuters, now has potholes ranging from 2 feet to as large as 15 feet, and no repair work is currently underway.

The stretch connecting Jamnagar Road to Kalawad Road via Kataria intersection and onward to Gondal Road also has severe potholes. Residents had demanded repairs last summer, and during the previous monsoon, people even staged a road blockade protest. Following these protests, authorities decided to completely rebuild the road. However, the onset of the monsoon stalled the construction work before it could begin.

Meanwhile, the situation has worsened due to rain. The asphalt on the road from Kankot to Gondal Road has worn away, and large potholes have formed. When these potholes fill with water, they become difficult for drivers to see, often causing vehicles to get stuck or damaged.

Representations have been made to both RUDA (Rajkot Urban Development Authority) and the Municipal Corporation to repair the road. According to RUDA sources, tenders have been floated to convert the entire stretch into a four-lane road, and work has also begun on the sections falling within the Municipal Corporation’s jurisdiction. The plan is to reconstruct the entire road after the monsoon as per a new design. However, residents have also demanded that at least basic repairs be carried out immediately to ease the daily difficulties faced by motorists. DeshGujarat
