Group attacks women for playing bhajans on loudspeaker in Ahmedabad society

Ahmedabad: A woman suffered a fractured leg after she and other women from her neighbourhood were allegedly attacked on Friday evening in Odhav. The incident happened when some other residents objected to them playing bhajans on a loudspeaker.

The incident occurred around 5 pm at Shridhar Sparsh Residency, where local women had gathered at the community temple for a bhajan session. According to the FIR, three men and a woman from the same society confronted the group over the loudspeaker volume. When the argument escalated, they allegedly turned violent.

The complainant, 45-year-old Bharati Patel, told police that the accused first objected to the noise and then began abusing and attacking the women. Patel further stated that the assailants threatened them, saying, “We’ll see how you sing bhajans here again.”

During the altercation, Patel was forcefully pushed, injuring her knee. She was taken to hospital by a 108 ambulance, where doctors confirmed she had suffered a leg fracture.

Based on Patel’s complaint, Odhav police registered a case against Kinjalben Alpeshkumar Patel, Alpeshkumar Rameshbhai Patel, Dev Ankitbhai Patel, and Ankitbhai Patel under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections 170(2), 118(1), 115(2), 351(2), and 54. Three of the accused have been detained.

Police noted that the clash appears to have arisen from an internal dispute among residents. DeshGujarat
