GHCL Limited gets Gujarat govt nod for Khadsaliya lignite mines lease renewal
July 22, 2025
Bhavnagar: GHCL Limited has announced that it has received approval from the Industries and Mines Department, Government of Gujarat, for the renewal of its mining lease for lignite at Khadsaliya village, Bhavnagar taluka, Bhavnagar district. The renewed lease, which covers an area of 171 hectares, will remain valid for twenty years, up to December 8, 2043.
This development is significant following GHCL’s strategic ₹950 crore Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Government of Gujarat on December 20, 2023. The MoU aims at the development and commercial sale of secondary minerals, specifically bentonite and sand.
“As a result, the Khadsaliya Mining Project will now evolve into a composite mining operation, encompassing both primary lignite mining and secondary mineral projects. This expansion represents a transformative opportunity for the region and aligns with our sustainability goals, circular economy principles, and commitment to resource optimization,” said the company in an exchange filing.
There has been no withdrawal, cancellation, or suspension of the license by the regulatory authority, and the renewed license remains valid until December 2043. DeshGujarat
