Ahmedabad RTO to get two more driving test tracks by year-end

Ahmedabad: In a significant boost to the process of obtaining a driver’s license, two additional driving test tracks at the Ahmedabad RTO are set to be ready by the end of this year.

Currently, applicants face long queues as only one driving test track is operational, leading to wait times of nearly 20 minutes during peak hours. Around 250 to 300 candidates appear daily for driving tests, with the maximum rush between 11 am and 2 pm, and again from 4 pm to 6 pm. The new tracks will allow the RTO to conduct tests for up to 750 candidates per day—triple the existing capacity.

With the expansion, three applicants will be able to take the test simultaneously, significantly reducing waiting time. The project is part of a modernization drive aimed at meeting growing demand and making the licensing process more efficient. Construction is currently underway, and officials expect the tracks to become operational within the next few months.

Once complete, the driving tests will be conducted using artificial intelligence (AI) technology, minimizing human intervention and ensuring greater transparency. Cameras will capture real-time path information, plotting the vehicle’s movement on a two-dimensional display. The system will record coordinates, analyze the traced path, and evaluate performance using algorithms. This AI-enabled system, designed to enhance efficiency and fairness, will later be introduced across all 39 RTOs in Gujarat. DeshGujarat
