Ahmedabad: The Crime Branch of Ahmedabad Police has exposed a gang of Syrian nationals allegedly extorting money from mosques by posing as victims of the Gaza conflict. Police have arrested a Syrian national identified as Ali Meghat Alzahar, who had entered India on a tourist visa.
During interrogation, it was revealed that Alzahar was using the funds to finance a lavish lifestyle. Following the police action, his three accomplices went underground and are currently on the run.
Officials said these activities pose a serious threat to the country’s internal security, as the accused were involved in suspicious operations while also violating visa regulations. Investigating agencies are probing the intended use of the funds collected through this network.
The matter is being jointly investigated by state and central security agencies. Authorities have initiated proceedings to detain, blacklist, and deport Ali Meghat Alzahar. DeshGujarat
