Gujarat AAP leader Chetan Rawal quits party

Gandhinagar: In a surprising political development, senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Chetan Rawal has resigned from the party, creating a stir in political circles. While Rawal’s resignation is officially said to be due to personal reasons, discussions and speculations regarding the actual motives are widespread. In his resignation letter addressed to state party chief Isudan Gadhvi, Rawal stated that he is resigning from the AAP with immediate effect due to personal reasons.
Chetan Rawal, a former popular TV actor and prominent political figure in Ahmedabad, had earlier left the Congress and joined the AAP in 2022. He had served as Ahmedabad City Congress chief and State General Secretary in the past, and had also contested elections from the Asarwa and Khadia assembly constituencies.
Notably, Rawal’s father, Prabodh Rawal, was also a senior Congress leader and spent his entire political career in the party, even serving as Gujarat’s Home Minister. Following in his father’s footsteps, Chetan Rawal became actively involved in Congress politics, including serving as Ahmedabad City Congress president. However, citing continued neglect and sidelining, he eventually left the Congress after a long period of dissatisfaction.
After leaving the Congress, Rawal joined the AAP, but three years later, he has resigned from the party as well, adding another twist to Gujarat’s political landscape.
