Vadodara: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the weather agency of the Government of India, has issued a flash flood warning for certain areas of Gujarat, including Surat, Vadodara, and Valsad, until 5:30 pm on Saturday, September 6.

According to the IMD bulletin issued by its Hydromet Division’s Flash Flood Guidance Cell, the districts of Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman, Aravalli, Bharuch, Chhota Udepur, Dahod, Mahisagar, Narmada, Navsari, Panchmahal, Sabarkantha, Surat, Tapi, Vadodara, and Valsad are likely to face moderate flash flood risks in the next 24 hours (up to 5:30 pm on September 6).

Other regions in India at risk include Banswara, Dungarpur, Pratapgarh, and Udaipur in Rajasthan; Mumbai City, Palghar, Suburban Mumbai, Thane, and Nandurbar in Maharashtra; as well as Alirajpur, Barwani, Dhar, and Jhabua districts in Madhya Pradesh.

Surface runoff and inundation may occur in fully saturated soils and low-lying areas, as indicated on the IMD’s map, due to the expected rainfall in the next 24 hours. Parts of Gujarat are also under red, orange, and yellow alerts for the next three days, according to another IMD bulletin. DeshGujarat
