Vishwamitri level at Kala Ghoda bridge in Vadodara crosses 17 ft mark on Saturday morning

Vadodara: After 62 gates of Ajwa lake opened on Friday, September 5, the level of water in river Vishwamitri at Kala Ghoda bridge in Vadodara as of 7.50 am on Saturday rose to 17.19 ft as per the data available from Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) that controls the Ajwa dam. The danger mark at Kala Ghoda bridge in river Vishwamitri is 26 ft.

The gates of Ajwa dam were opened at 9 am, with the level of water at 213.46 ft. In 24 hours ending at 6 am, Shehra had 3.5 inches of rainfall which would affect the inflow and outflow of Ajwa. Similarly Padra in Vadodara district had 3.19 inch, Shinor in same distrct 2.68 inch Vadodara city had 1.97 inch rainfall.


IMD has meanwhile issued low to moderate flash flood risk in its bulletin in the areas of Gujarat including Vadodara, Valsad, Tapi, Surat, Sabarkantha, Patan, Panchmahala, Navsari, Narmada, Mehsana, Mahisagar, Kheda, Gandhinagar, Banaskantha, Bharuch, Aravalli, Anand and Ahmedabad. In view of Red alert issued by IMD (for extremely heavy rainfall possibilities) in separate bulletin, the District Education Officer (DEO) of Vadodara district has instructed schools to declare holiday for students today on September 6.

In another development on Saturday morning, due to water of Vadsar water drain over-topping the approach road by around one and half ft, the areas of Koteshwar village, Kansa Residency , Samruddi Mention etc are disconnected. VMC team was seen alerting locals to shift to safer place in view of rising levels of Vishwamitri. VMC officials said the water level may rise further by one and half ft here. Two schools including Hansa Mehta school were readied for eventual shifting of locals. Causeway connecting Sambhoi to Karjan has also suffered overtopping by waters of river Dhadhar released from Deu dam. Magrol-Sapa road had overtopping following which Navi Nagri housing colony was disconnected. Also thousands of acres of farming in village Sapa suffered damages. DeshGujarat
