Mahisagar: Local police have filed an FIR against employees, officials, and contractors of the Ajanta Hydro Power Project following the deaths of five workers at the company’s Dolatpura hydel plant, operated by Ajanta Energy Pvt Ltd. The company is owned by Morbi-based industrialist Jaysukh Patel, who is also one of the accused in the Morbi bridge collapse case.
According to the FIR filed with Lunawada Taluka police, the tragedy occurred on September 4 when water was released from Kadana Dam. Fifteen workers were performing maintenance about 150 feet below ground level at the sump when a sudden surge of water rushed in. The workers tried to escape using ladders, but five of them tragically drowned. Preliminary inquiries suggest that damage to the reservoir wall or its gates may have triggered the incident.
The FIR was lodged following a complaint by the brother of one of the deceased. Police have registered the case under sections 106 and 125(a) of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita, which relate to causing death by negligence and acts that recklessly endanger human life or personal safety. Authorities stated that they are investigating the role of everyone whose negligence may have contributed to the incident. Action will be taken against those found responsible. No arrests have been made so far, and if the company owner is found negligent, action will be taken against him as well. DeshGujarat
