New Delhi: Following C. P. Radhakrishnan’s resignation from the office of Governor of Maharashtra upon his election as Vice President of India, the President of India has appointed Acharya Devvrat, the current Governor of Gujarat, to discharge the duties of Maharashtra Governor in addition to his responsibilities in Gujarat, the President’s Secretariat announced in a press release today.

CP Radhakrishnan, backed by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), was elected Vice President of India on Tuesday, defeating the INDIA bloc nominee Justice B. Sudershan Reddy.

Radhakrishnan secured 452 first-preference votes, while Justice Reddy received 300, with 15 votes declared invalid. The Rajya Sabha Secretary-General, PC Mody, announced the results following the counting. The election recorded a 98.20% turnout, with 767 out of 781 MPs casting their votes. Thirteen MPs abstained, including seven from the Biju Janata Dal, four from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, one from the Shiromani Akali Dal, and one independent MP. DeshGujarat
