In Pictures: Thematic Art Installations Celebrating Gujarat’s Heritage at Ahmedabad Airport T2

Ahmedabad: Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in city has introduced a series of striking art installations at Terminal 2, aiming to offer passengers a rich cultural experience while highlighting Gujarat’s vibrant traditions.

According to the airport management, the installations capture the essence of Gujarat’s freedom movement, cultural identity, and festive spirit, providing travellers with an immersive glimpse into the state’s heritage.

The artworks are organised around three main themes:

Conversations of Freedom: Located in the Departures check-in hall, this installation centres on Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, celebrating India’s struggle for independence. Surrounding them are symbolic depictions of Gujarat’s iconic landscapes and historical landmarks. The 350-metre mural, crafted from metallic sheets with jaali-style illustrations, is enhanced with three-dimensional brass and copper sculptures, paying tribute to the state’s pivotal role in the freedom movement.

Utsav Wall – Navratri and Uttarayan Celebrations: Situated in the Baggage Claim Hall in Arrivals, this vibrant mural reflects Gujarat’s renowned festivals. Made from modular sheet blocks layered with patterned brass strips, the three-dimensional installation depicts Garba dancers and soaring kites, welcoming passengers with a sense of joy, cultural pride, and festive celebration.

Pragati-ni-Patang: Inspired by Gujarat’s kite-flying tradition, this installation in the Domestic Arrival area features life-size bronze sculptures of children, capturing the energy and vibrancy of Uttarayan. Internally lit acrylic kites, supported by concealed stainless steel structures, symbolise hope, progress, and the aspirations of future generations.
