Ahmedabad: An Uber bike taxi driver suffered a fractured wrist on Wednesday morning after he was allegedly assaulted by a passenger for asking him to wear a helmet. The incident took place in Shilaj after the 25-year-old driver, Sandeepsinh Sisodiya, accepted a booking from a residential apartment around 10.15 am.
In his complaint to Bopal police, Sisodiya said he works as an office assistant in Sola and also ferries passengers through ride-hailing apps. On Wednesday, after leaving for Thaltej, he began taking rides and accepted a booking from Shilaj. Upon reaching the location, he offered the passenger a helmet and requested him to wear it. The passenger allegedly refused, saying he never wears helmets.
Sisodiya then informed him that not wearing one could attract a fine and asked him to cancel the ride. However, the passenger reportedly refused, insisting he would neither wear the helmet nor cancel the trip, and began abusing and assaulting Sisodiya, resulting in a fractured wrist.
Two bystanders intervened and pulled the accused away. The injured driver then called the police control room, after which police arrived at the spot. He was later shifted to Sola Civil Hospital for treatment before filing a complaint. Bopal police have registered a case against the passenger. DeshGujarat
