Ahmedabad Man Accused of Forging Court Order for Fake Death Certificate

Ahmedabad: A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against a man for allegedly forging an order from the Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court to fraudulently register a death certificate. The Gaikwad Haveli police have booked Hareskrishna Mangaldas Parmar under Indian Penal Code sections for forgery and using a forged document as genuine.

The complaint was filed by Suhagbhai Hiralal Jadav, an employee of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) Birth and Death Registration department. The alleged crime occurred on May 20, 2024, when Parmar submitted the forged court document to the AMC’s Arogya Bhavan office at Gita Mandir.

According to the FIR, the matter came to light after media reports highlighted that two separate death certificates had been issued related to a single death from 1988 at V.S. Hospital. The original death certificate was issued for Nandaben Mangaldas Parmar on May 27, 1988. However, another certificate was recently obtained in the name of Gangaben Mangaldas Parmar for the same death, prompting an internal vigilance investigation by the AMC.

The vigilance inquiry revealed that Parmar had obtained the second certificate for “Gangaben” by presenting a court order supposedly issued by the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court No. 8 on December 22, 2023. However, upon verification, officials discovered that the court order was a forgery.

The investigation found several discrepancies:

  • The case number on the document, 4477/2023, did not exist. The court’s case numbers for that year only went up to 1367/2023.
  • The name of the judge mentioned in the order, Mayuri Bhaskar Bhaliya, was fictitious, as no judge by that name served at the court.
  • The in-charge judge on that date was Shri Vanraj Chaudhary.

The FIR alleges that Parmar created the fake order, complete with a forged court seal and signature of an “Assistant Superintendent,” for personal gain and used it to fraudulently register the death of Gangaben Mangaldas Parmar. Based on the findings, the registrar of the birth and death department ordered Jadav to file a police complaint. The Gaikwad Haveli Police Station registered the case on September 20, 2025, and have begun an investigation.
