GAIL to double Jamnagar-Loni LPG pipeline capacity; lay new spur line
September 26, 2025
Jamnagar: GAIL (India) Limited has announced a major capacity expansion of the Jamnagar-Loni LPG Pipeline, doubling its throughput from 3.25 MMTPA to 6.5 MMTPA.
The public enterprise will undertake the expansion of the Jamnagar-Loni LPG Pipeline and lay the 1,107 km-long pipeline at an estimated cost of around Rs 5,350 crore. The new pipeline will pass through five states: Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh. The project will meet the growing demand for petroleum products and strengthen the country’s energy infrastructure.
The expansion will significantly enhance the transportation capacity of the existing system and ensure safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of fuel to consumers across multiple regions. LPG transmission through pipelines is safer, more energy-efficient, and more sustainable compared to transport by road tankers. The pipeline will also reduce the carbon footprint, aligning with the country’s net-zero goals.
In a related move, GAIL has approved laying a ~114 km natural gas spur line, at a cost of ~Rs 450 crore, from GAIL’s Vijaipur plant to the BPCL refinery complex at Bina, Madhya Pradesh, where the existing refinery capacity is being expanded and a new petrochemical plant is being added.
Furthermore, approval has been accorded for establishing a Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant at Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The facility will utilize agri-based feedstock to produce 20 tonnes of CBG per day and generate 88 tonnes of Fermented Organic Manure (FOM) daily, promoting a circular economy and sustainable agriculture. Designed with a zero-wastewater discharge system, the project reflects GAIL’s continued commitment to green energy initiatives and environmental sustainability. DeshGujarat
