Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided to convert the Vastral cattle shed into a dog sterilisation centre. The decision comes after a surge in stray dog numbers and dog-bite incidents. The project, proposed by the CNCD and costing around Rs 1.1 crore, aims to curb the city’s stray dog population of over 2.1 lakh and is expected to be completed in six months.

The initiative, proposed by the Cattle Nuisance Control Department (CNCD) of the AMC, aims to enhance urban animal welfare and tackle the growing stray dog population, which exceeds 2.1 lakh in the city. The Road and Building Department has approved the project, which would cost an estimated Rs 1.1 crore and is expected to be completed within the next six months.

The initiative will be part of the civic body’s plan to make Ahmedabad a rabies-free city by 2030 through sterilisation and vaccination drives. DeshGujarat
