Ahmedabad jewellery firm staffer absconds with ₹7.24-crore gold, cash
October 20, 2025
Ahmedabad: An employee of a Navrangpura-based jewellery firm has allegedly fled with over 7.25 kg of gold jewellery worth ₹7.24 crore and ₹7.26 lakh in cash. The firm’s partner lodged a complaint with Navrangpura police on Saturday.
According to the FIR, the accused, a Nirnaynagar resident employed with the firm for four years, was handling sales across North India, including Ludhiana, Ambala, Ghaziabad, and Dehradun. On July 14, he and another staffer were sent to Dehradun with 2.28 kg of 22-carat gold ornaments for client displays.
A routine audit of records from October 2024 to July 2025 later revealed discrepancies, as several jewellers denied receiving the jewellery or making payments recorded by the accused. When questioned, he became evasive and switched off his phone. His colleague reported that he went missing from their hotel during the trip.
The firm found a total shortage of 7.72 kg of gold worth ₹7.24 crore, along with ₹7.26 lakh in stone-studded ornaments. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). DeshGujarta
