Gujarat Police solves 80 major crimes using fingerprint technology

Gandhinagar: In a step toward smart and professional policing through the use of modern technology, the Gujarat Police solved 80 major crimes in the past nine months using the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS).
State Police Chief Vikas Sahay said that the adoption of such technology will make the process of solving crimes faster and more accurate. “Gujarat Police is committed to using technology for smarter and more professional policing,” he added.
The NAFIS portal maintains a comprehensive fingerprint database of criminals arrested in various serious crimes. At the national level, it holds records of over 1.2 crore offenders, while Gujarat’s contribution exceeds 22 lakh criminals.
