Indian Dog Breeds Contingent to Take Part in Ekta Diwas Parade in Gujarat
October 23, 2025
Ekta Nagar: In a historic first, the Border Security Force (BSF) will showcase an exclusive marching contingent of indigenous Indian dog breeds during the upcoming Ekta Diwas Parade at Ekta Nagar, Gujarat.
The parade, held to mark National Unity Day, will also feature a special dog training demonstration highlighting the tactical skills and operational excellence of India’s self-reliant K9 force.
Indian dog breeds have long been admired for their courage, loyalty, and endurance, playing vital roles from royal courts to battlefields and forming an enduring part of India’s cultural and martial heritage.
This tradition was revitalized in 2018 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the National Training Centre for Dogs (NTCD) in Tekanpur and advocated for the inclusion of Indian breeds in the nation’s security forces. Two years later, following his mention in Mann Ki Baat, the BSF began training Rampur Hounds from Uttar Pradesh and Mudhol Hounds from the South—both intelligent and highly capable working dogs.
