Gir Forest: The Forest Department has taken strict action in a case of harassment of lions in Gir jungle. Three youths from Veraval were nabbed by Babariya Range officials for disturbing a lion in the Jasadhar Range and were handed over to the Range Forest Officer of Jasadhar for further investigation.
During the probe, officials found video footage on their mobile phones showing not only incidents in the Jasadhar Range but also in the Babariya Range, confirming that the trio regularly harassed lions. The department produced them in court, which granted a one-day remand for detailed investigation.
After the remand period ended, the accused were sent to Junagadh Jail. The Forest Department also seized their car and mobile phones containing the incriminating videos. As the act falls under serious violations of the Wildlife Protection Act, the department has adopted a strict stance. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for October 27.
The department’s swift action sends a strong message against illegal and harmful activities involving wildlife. DeshGujarat
