Ahmedabad: Gujarat’s 108 Emergency Medical Services (EMS) demonstrated exceptional efficiency and commitment during the Diwali festivities. From the start of Diwali until October 24 — a span of just five days — the 108 EMS team handled a total of 28,129 emergency calls, marking a milestone in the history of Gujarat’s emergency medical response system, an official statement from the Gujarat government stated today.
During these five days, the service handled an average of 5,626 emergencies per day, reflecting a 16.59% increase compared to the usual daily average of 4,825 emergencies. On October 22 — the New Year Day — the 108 EMS achieved a new record by managing 5,874 emergency calls in a single day, representing a 21.74% rise over the regular average.
Despite the sharp surge in emergencies, the 108 team maintained swift response times and consistent service quality. Technology and innovation played a key role in ensuring smooth operations. The Emergency Response Center (ERC) effectively utilized advanced features such as location-based services, automatic ambulance assignment, dynamic hotspot tracking, and real-time deviation alert systems for prompt interventions. These tools ensured that operations remained efficient and uninterrupted even during peak emergency loads, the statement added. DeshGujarat
