Widespread rain across Gujarat on Monday morning; Saurashtra records highest rainfall
October 27, 2025
Ahmedabad: The heavy downpour continued in several parts of Gujarat this morning as well, with Rajula in Amreli district recording the highest rainfall of 6.22 inches during the four-hour period between 6 am and 10 am.
According to data released by the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) in Gandhinagar, among other talukas that received heavy rain, Mahuva in Bhavnagar recorded 3.38 inches, Galteshwar in Kheda and Vallabhipur in Bhavnagar each received 3.15 inches, while Lilia in Amreli saw 3.07 inches and Savar Kundla in Amreli recorded 2.87 inches of rain.
Amid the heavy rainfall, a pregnant woman in Rajula got trapped when the ambulance carrying her for delivery got stuck in floodwaters. The incident occurred after water from the Samadhiyala dam overflowed onto the road, blocking the route. However, with the help of a JCB machine, rescuers safely pulled the woman out of the water and transported her to a hospital, where she delivered the baby safely.
Additionally, Dhatarwadi Dam-2 in Amreli has received substantial inflow following incessant rainfall. Authorities have opened 19 gates of the dam to release excess water and issued warnings to people residing in low-lying areas.
Due to the downpour, water accumulated on the Bhavnagar–Somnath Highway, leading to the closure of the service road after it became flooded. Fields near the national highway were submerged, and a Bagasara depot bus also got trapped in the water.
Furthermore, rainfall ranging between 2 and 2.75 inches was recorded in areas such as Jesar, Godhra, Una, Gir Gadhada, and Balasinor. Other regions, including Khambha, Lunawada, Botad, Kadana, and Shehera, reported rainfall of over 1.5 inches.
Light to moderate showers were reported across Mahisagar, Dahod, Panchmahal, Kheda, Aravalli, and Vadodara districts, where rainfall ranged between 0.4 and 1.2 inches. North and central Gujarat saw scattered drizzle, with Mehsana, Patan, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, and Gandhinagar recording less than 0.2 inches of rain.
According to SEOC data, over 130 talukas across the state received measurable rainfall in the four hours between 6 am and 10 am. The heaviest concentration was reported in Saurashtra and parts of central and eastern Gujarat, while north Gujarat saw only light showers.
The widespread rain has brought temporary relief from the dry spell and rising temperatures. However, officials said unseasonal rains at this stage could impact standing crops in parts of Saurashtra, Kheda, and Dahod districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast further rain over the next few days, with isolated heavy rainfall likely along coastal Saurashtra due to a low-pressure system over the Arabian Sea.
