Surat Industrialist Ashish Gujarati Attacked, Robbed on Udaipur Highway

Udaipur: In a shocking incident, Surat-based textile industrialist and former president of the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI), Ashish Gujarati, was attacked and robbed by unidentified assailants on the Udaipur Highway on the night of October 26. The robbers looted valuables worth over ₹3.5 lakh, including cash and personal belongings.

The incident occurred near Pipli village when Gujarati had briefly stopped his Toyota Hyryder car while travelling from Surat to Udaipur with his wife and family friends.

Gujarati stated that three men on a motorcycle approached him and, before he could react, threatened him in Hindi to hand over all his cash. One of the robbers snatched his wallet containing ₹15,000 in cash, debit cards, and his driving licence. When Gujarati resisted, the attackers moved towards his car and began threatening his wife and other passengers, warning that they would kill him if the money was not handed over.

During the scuffle, one of the assailants struck Gujarati on the head with a wooden stick, causing bleeding injuries, and forcibly removed a diamond ring worth ₹3 lakh from his finger.

Showing presence of mind, Gujarati’s wife parked the car diagonally across the road, forcing other vehicles to stop. Seeing this, the robbers fled the scene. Nearby motorists provided first aid and helped stop the bleeding, after which Gujarati contacted the police and lodged a complaint with the Surajpol police in Udaipur. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. DeshGujarat
