Depression over Arabian Sea likely to move towards Gujarat coast; IMD issues heavy rain alert

Ahmedabad: Widespread unseasonal rains continued across Gujarat during the past 24 hours, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reporting vigorous rainfall activity in some parts. According to the IMD’s latest weather summary, heavy rainfall occurred at a few places in Gandhinagar, and at isolated locations in Bharuch and Bhavnagar districts.

Furthermore, the weather department has issued orange and yellow alerts for several places over the next three days, as heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in parts of the state.

Depression Over Arabian Sea

The IMD said a depression over the east-central Arabian Sea moved north-northeastwards at a speed of 10 kmph during the past six hours and was centred about 300 km southwest of Veraval. The system is likely to move towards the Gujarat coast across the east-central Arabian Sea during the next 24 hours and gradually weaken thereafter.

State Forecast

As per the IMD, during the next 24 hours, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places in Bharuch, Surat, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, and Diu. An orange alert has been issued for these areas.

Additionally, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Daman, Rajkot, Junagadh, and Botad have been placed under a yellow alert for heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and surface winds of 30–40 kmph may occur at isolated places across Gujarat.
