Junagadh: A tragic accident occurred at the pilgrimage site of Mount Girnar on Thursday, where a young man lost his life after falling from a great height while trekking.
According to the police, the victim, 30-year-old Bhavish Gohil, was attempting to climb a steep shortcut instead of using the main staircase route. During the risky ascent, he slipped near the 3,000th step and tumbled nearly 500 steps down. His body was later found near the 2,500th step.
A shopkeeper who spotted the body alerted the forest department, which in turn informed Bhavnath police. With the help of local porters, the body was brought down from the hill and sent for post-mortem examination before being handed over to Gohil’s family. Police have registered a case of accidental death, and further investigation into the incident is underway.
It is learnt that Gohil had been cautioned by fellow trekkers against taking the risky shortcut but ignored the warnings and slipped while climbing. The incident came to light shortly after the district administration and saints decided to hold the Girnar Parikrama symbolically this year due to unseasonal rainfall, highlighting the challenging weather and terrain conditions around the hill.
