PSI caught drunk on duty in Ahmedabad; booked
November 03, 2025
Ahmedabad: A police sub-inspector (PSI) posted in the city’s Traffic Department was caught in an inebriated state near Narol Police Station early Monday morning. The officer, identified as Jayendrasinh Gauravsingh Virpura (48), a resident of Hariom Society in Rajendrapark, Odhav, was found intoxicated and unable to produce a valid liquor permit.
According to the FIR filed by Assistant Head Constable Chandansinh Raghunandansinh (Badge No. 4381) of Narol Police Station, the incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. on November 3, 2025. The matter first came to light the previous night, when police control received a call around 10 p.m. on Sunday from a man named Rohan Vacheta, alleging that the PSI on duty at the Narol Traffic Police Chowki appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.
Soon after, several residents gathered outside the traffic outpost upon noticing the officer’s condition, leading to a brief commotion in the area. Police personnel reached the spot and later brought the PSI to Narol Police Station, where he was reportedly found reeking of liquor. During questioning, Virpura admitted to drinking but failed to produce a liquor permit. Two independent witnesses were called to verify the situation, and a panchnama (witness statement) was drawn on the spot.
Following this, a case was registered against him under Sections 66(B) and 85(1) of the Gujarat Prohibition Act for consuming liquor without a permit.
The incident has caused embarrassment for the city police, particularly as Gujarat is a dry state under strict prohibition laws. DeshGujarat
