Vadodara Police Book Managing Director of Headline News for Threats and Extortion

Vadodara: The Atladara Police have booked the Managing Director of Headline News, Girishbhai Nanajibhai Solanki, following a complaint filed by Anup Singh Thakur, a resident of Bluebell Tower, Vicenza Highdeck in the Kalali area. Thakur has alleged repeated threats, verbal abuse, and extortion attempts by Solanki.

According to the complaint, Anup Singh, who runs a packaging business in Makarpura GIDC, has been targeted by Girishbhai over personal disputes and society-related issues.

The complainant stated that Girish, who previously lived in the same society, had a history of verbally abusing society members and creating public disturbances. Despite being removed from the society committee due to repeated misconduct, Girishbhai allegedly continued to threaten Anup Singh and other residents, citing his position as Chief Managing Director of Headline News.

The complaint further alleges that on multiple occasions, Girish verbally abused Anup over phone calls and WhatsApp messages, threatened him with violence, and even sent an unknown person to demand ₹5 lakh as extortion. The person allegedly warned that failure to comply would result in harm to Anup and his factory.

As per the complaint, on August 8, Solanki sent a message in the society’s WhatsApp group claiming that a GST raid had been conducted eight months ago at the factory in Makarpura GIDC, where fraud had occurred, and threatened to expose it.

The next day, while Anup was on his way to the office, an unknown person with a handkerchief covering his face allegedly approached him and said, “If you don’t stop your actions from being aired on the news channel, Girishbhai has demanded ₹5 lakh. Deliver the money to the office by evening, or else you and your factory will be destroyed.” When Anup did not pay, Solanki allegedly used abusive language against him on social media on November 4.

According to the complaint, Girish also sent a message in the WhatsApp group between 8:37 p.m. and 8:58 p.m., stating: “I have taken a pistol license by submitting original documents, and it is fully loaded.”
Anup has submitted screenshots of WhatsApp and Instagram messages as evidence.

Acting on the complaint, the Atladara Police have booked the accused, Girish Solanki, under Sections 308(4), 351(3), 296(b), and 54 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Notably, this is the fourth case registered against the accused within a few days. Last week, Solanki was arrested for allegedly threatening Ranjit Virda with a pistol over unpaid dues related to contract work and equipment. Virda, who had partnered with Solanki for labour contracts worth ₹32 lakh, claimed that Solanki paid only ₹5–6 lakh and later rented out his equipment to others. When Virda tried to recover the equipment months ago, Solanki allegedly abused him, locked him in his office, slapped him, threatened him with a pistol, and took ₹14,000 in cash. Solanki was remanded for two days, and his licensed pistol was seized.

Another complaint was filed after five bottles of alcohol were found in a flat in Kalali, and yet another followed when a knife and baseball bat were recovered from a car associated with Headline News. DeshGujarat
