AMC conducts demolition drive in Satellite to remove illegal encroachments

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) today launched a major encroachment removal drive in the Satellite area of the city. The operation to clear illegal constructions was carried out on the 18-meter and 9-meter-wide TP roads running parallel to SPIPA, from BRTS Road, Sundarvan towards Mansi Circle, where a settlement known as Ranujanagar had come up.

The road falls under Ward No. 20 (Jodhpur) and is part of Town Planning (TP) Scheme No. 6 (Vejalpur). Earlier, AMC had served notices to the affected residents to vacate the TP road for road-opening work. Out of the total affected occupants, 72 were found eligible for alternative housing and were allotted accommodations at the Krishnadham Awas Yojana in Sarkhej through a draw process.

Subsequently, some of the affected residents filed petitions before the Gujarat High Court, seeking alternative arrangements elsewhere. The High Court had granted a status quo order, which was later vacated on September 25, 2025. Following this order, AMC allotted alternative housing to six more occupants at Krishnadham Awas Yojana, Sarkhej, on October 9, 2025, also through the draw method.

On Friday, the civic body, with assistance from the Satellite Police, undertook the encroachment removal using two anti-encroachment vehicles, one Hitachi machine, four JCBs, and 32 private contract laborers.

During the drive, the civic team cleared 96 structures, including 84 residential units, six commercial units, and six society compound walls. The operation has paved the way for opening an 18-meter-wide and 415-meter-long stretch and a 9-meter-wide and 130-meter-long TP road in the area. DeshGujarat
