Ahmedabad: The Customs Department at Ahmedabad Airport has seized USD 40,000 from a Dubai-bound passenger in a major foreign currency smuggling case. The incident took place on November 16, when CISF personnel alerted customs officials about a suspicious passenger preparing to board SpiceJet flight SG-15.
During a thorough examination of the passenger’s handbag, officers discovered US dollars concealed inside two white envelopes. The undeclared foreign currency, valued at ₹35.10 lakh, had been hidden in violation of customs regulations.
According to officials, the passenger failed to declare the foreign currency as required under the Customs Act, 1962, and FEMA provisions. The entire amount has been seized, and a detailed investigation is underway to determine the source of the cash and the purpose behind carrying such a large sum illegally.
