Stray cattle menace: Porbandar woman dies after bull attack

Porbandar: A woman has tragically died after being attacked by a stray bull, highlighting the ongoing menace of stray cattle in the city.

The victim, Gitaben Salet, a resident of Giriraj Society in Balvinagar, was near her home around 10 PM on November 13 when the incident occurred. According to her family, she had stepped out to dispose of food leftovers when a bull charged from behind, violently throwing her into the air.

Gitaben sustained severe injuries and was immediately taken via 108 ambulance to Bhavsinhji Hospital. Doctors determined she needed a spinal operation that could not be performed locally. She was shifted first to a hospital in another district and later to Ahmedabad for specialized treatment. Despite undergoing surgery, she suffered internal injuries along with wounds to her hands, legs, and ears, and passed away two days ago.

Family members and local residents have held the Porbandar Municipal Corporation responsible, citing a prolonged halt in the corporation’s efforts to control stray cattle. They warn that this negligence has led to numerous accidents, both minor and serious, across the city.
