BMC Demolishes Madresa Hostel Blocking 24-Metre Road in Bhavnagar
November 23, 2025
Bhavnagar: The Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Sunday demolished an illegal construction spread over a 1,500 sq m plot belonging to a Madresa complex on Ghogha road, close to Akwada lake. The action was carried out in the presence of senior BMC officials and district police personnel.
According to civic officials, the hostel building of the Madresa had been obstructing a 24-metre-wide road that has remained ready but unusable for the past two years. The original plan approved a 30-metre road, but its width was reduced to 24 metres to minimise damage to the Madresa premises. Even then, the hostel structure continued to block the route, making the demolition necessary to complete the circular road network.

Officials said the Madresa management had been issued prior notices, and all statutory procedures were completed before the operation. They added that community leaders and the management were convinced about the need for the action, which they described as essential for public infrastructure.
Authorities clarified that no religious structure was demolished; only the residential hostel building was removed.
The demolition began around 7 a.m. with the deployment of nearly 150 police personnel, including 15 inspectors and sub-inspectors, to ensure smooth execution of the operation.
