PM Highlights Jam Saheb’s Humanitarian Legacy in Mann Ki Baat

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the latest episode of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, today paid heartfelt tribute to Jam Saheb Maharaja Digvijay Singhji of Jamnagar, recalling his extraordinary humanitarian gesture during World War II.

The Prime Minister said that India’s civilisational ethos has always placed peace and compassion above all else, and Jam Saheb’s actions remain a shining example of that spirit. “During the horrific atmosphere of destruction in the Second World War, Jam Saheb did not think of military alliances or war strategies. His concern was how to save the Polish Jewish children caught in the storm of war,” PM Modi said.

He recounted how the Nawanagar ruler opened his doors to thousands of Polish children fleeing Nazi persecution, offering them refuge, food, shelter and a chance at a new life. “What Jam Saheb did in those difficult times continues to inspire us even today,” he added.

The Prime Minister also referred to the recent unveiling of Jam Saheb’s statue at Moshav Nevatim in southern Israel, describing it as a “very special honour” for India’s humanitarian tradition. Modi further recalled his visit last year to the memorial of Jam Saheb in Warsaw, Poland. “It was a moment I will never forget,” he said.

By highlighting the episode, PM Modi underscored how India’s timeless values of compassion and humanity have echoed across continents and generations—serving as a reminder of the country’s moral leadership even in the darkest chapters of world history.
