SMC Commissioner Inspects Dumas Seafront Project; Imposes ₹5 Lakh Penalty on Contractor

Surat: Surat Municipal Commissioner Shalini Agrawal today inspected the ongoing works under the Dumas Seafront Development Project, a major coastal tourism initiative aimed at enhancing recreational facilities and showcasing the natural beauty of the spot for both domestic and international visitors. The Commissioner imposed a penalty of ₹5 lakh on the contractor.

The project covers 102 hectares along the Dumas coastline and includes the development of tourist facilities across a 5.5 km stretch of the seashore. As part of Zone-1, spread over 12.86 hectares, capital works worth ₹244 crore are currently under rapid progress.

The development includes several key attractions such as a surface parking facility, multi-level car parking (MLCP) building, four-wheeler and two-wheeler parking areas, cycling track, promenade, walkway, erosion protection wall, amenities building, yoga ground, event plaza, INS Surat model ship installation, marine-themed sculptures, and a convenience plaza.

As part of smart monitoring under the 12.86-hectare zone, the MLCP building will serve as a central control room for real-time surveillance and management. This will include:

-CCTV camera network

-Digital displays

-NBS Trail system

-Integrated water supply network

-STP inflow/outflow systems

-Recharge bore facilities

-Monitoring and security systems

-Tourist emergency response

-Disaster management plan

-Digital management and supervision tools

During her visit, the Commissioner reviewed completed works such as the surface parking, yoga ground, promenade area, and the mechanised parking system inside the MLCP building. She instructed officials and contractors to expedite all pending works, including horticulture, with utmost priority.

However, action was also taken for non-compliance. Since the executing contractor failed to install adequate measures to prevent dust pollution, the Commissioner imposed a penalty of ₹5 lakh on the contractor.

The Dumas Seafront Project aims to transform the spot into a vibrant coastal tourism destination, offering modern amenities while preserving its natural charm.
