72 traffic signals to operate 24/7 in Vadodara

Vadodara: Civic authorities and the Traffic Department in Vadodara are contemplating the round-the-clock operation of traffic signals to tackle the city’s persistent traffic problems. Under the pilot project, 72 traffic signals at key junctions across the city will function 24 hours a day. This move follows careful consideration and a joint inspection by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) and the City Police Traffic Department.

The initiative is based on a comprehensive survey conducted using drones, which identified high-risk areas prone to accidents and reckless driving, particularly during nighttime. The 24/7 signal operation aims to reduce accidents and curb dangerous driving practices.

While officials emphasize road safety as the priority, the decision has sparked reactions from motorists. Many have requested that traffic signals be switched off after 11 PM, suggesting an extension from the current cutoff time of 10 PM.

The pilot project will be closely monitored before authorities decide on a permanent 24-hour implementation across the city. DeshGujarat
