ECI deploys special roll observers in Gujarat, other states for SIR exercise
December 13, 2025
New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has appointed Special Roll Observers (SROs) to oversee the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in several major states, including West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan.
The SROs have already begun their work and are expected to be present in these states at least two days a week until the final electoral rolls are published in February 2026.
As part of their duties, the observers will meet with state- and district-level leadership of all national and state political parties. They will also hold meetings, either physically or virtually, with the Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) and District Electoral Officers (DEOs) to ensure the revision process is conducted smoothly, transparently, and in a participatory manner.
The SROs will closely monitor the SIR process to ensure that no eligible elector is left out and no ineligible person is included in the electoral rolls, safeguarding the integrity of the upcoming elections. DeshGujarat
