Winter not so cold: Day and night temperatures remain above normal across Gujarat

Ahmedabad: Both maximum and minimum temperatures stayed above normal across most parts of Gujarat yesterday, as per the weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department on Monday morning. Several stations recorded daytime temperatures 1 to 3 degrees Celsius above normal, while night temperatures were higher by up to 3.9 degrees Celsius in some locations.

In Ahmedabad, the maximum temperature settled at 28.7°C, one degree above normal, while the minimum was 15.6°C, 3.4°C above normal. Rajkot reported one of the highest temperature deviations, with the maximum at 31.9°C, 3.2°C above normal, and the minimum at 15.4°C, higher by 2.9°C.

Surat also remained warm, recording a maximum of 32.2°C, 2°C above normal, and a minimum of 18.4°C, 3.3°C above normal. Bhuj saw its maximum touch 30.6°C, exceeding normal by 3.1°C, while the minimum was 14.4°C, higher by 3.3°C.

Along the Saurashtra and coastal belt, Dwarka reported a maximum of 29.4°C (2.4°C above normal) and a minimum of 19°C (2.6°C above normal), while Veraval recorded 30.7°C as the day temperature and 18.6°C at night, both above normal by 1.3°C and 2.8°C respectively. Porbandar (30.7°C / 17.2°C) and Okha (26.9°C / 20.7°C) too witnessed temperatures higher than the seasonal average.

In North Gujarat, Deesa registered a maximum of 28.3°C, one degree above normal, with the minimum at 12.8°C, 2.5°C above normal. Gandhinagar remained relatively milder during the day at 27°C, one degree below normal, but the night temperature stayed elevated at 15°C, 3.1°C above normal.

Meteorological officials indicated that the prevailing warm conditions during both day and night hours are likely linked to clear skies and weak northerly winds, which have limited cooling during nighttime.
