Gandhinagar civic body refutes typhoid death rumours; 133 cases reported

Gandhinagar: City civic authorities on Monday clarified that reports circulating on social media regarding typhoid-related deaths in Gandhinagar are incorrect and misleading.
According to an official statement, a total of 133 typhoid cases have been registered so far. Of these, 45 patients have recovered and been discharged, while 88 patients are currently undergoing treatment in hospitals.
The civic body stated that all hospitalised patients are in stable condition, with no critical cases and no deaths reported due to typhoid in the city.
Authorities have appealed to citizens not to believe or spread rumours and to rely only on verified information released through official channels.
Suspected cases have been reported from Sectors 24 and 28 of the state capital and the Adivada area in the last few days, following a water pipeline leakage detected recently.
Deputy Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi earlier stated that the district administration and the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation have formed multiple teams to address the situation. “The contamination issue has been fully resolved. A total of 367 water samples were collected yesterday, and all results were found to be satisfactory,” he said.
Sanghavi added that a team of 22 doctors, including five MD specialists, has been deployed to monitor and treat patients. He further noted that Union Home Minister and Gandhinagar Lok Sabha MP Amit Shah is in constant touch with hospital authorities and reviews the situation daily with the district collector.
In response to the outbreak, authorities have started round-the-clock outpatient services in affected areas and arranged food for relatives of patients admitted to the Civil Hospital.
As part of intensified surveillance, 75 health teams have conducted extensive surveys across Gandhinagar city. So far, more than 20,800 households and over 90,000 people have been covered.
Preventive measures include the distribution of 30,000 chlorine tablets and 20,600 ORS packets. Health workers are also conducting door-to-door awareness campaigns, advising residents to boil drinking water, avoid outside food, and maintain proper hand hygiene.
The government stated that super chlorination of water supplies has been intensified, chlorination levels are being closely monitored, and pipeline leakages in affected areas have been repaired on priority. DeshGujarat
