Ahmedabad: An on-duty traffic police constable was injured after a car driver allegedly attempted to run him over at Bhadaj Circle in Ahmedabad on Wednesday evening. The accused reportedly drove a Hyundai Creta without a number plate at high speed, carrying the constable on the vehicle’s bonnet for nearly one to one-and-a-half kilometres before slowing down, causing the officer to fall onto the road.
The incident occurred around 6:30 pm when personnel of the A-Division Traffic Police were conducting routine vehicle checks under the Bhadaj Chaar Rasta bridge. A silver Creta approaching from Science City Road was signalled to stop. Although the driver initially slowed down, he refused to pull over despite repeated instructions.
According to police, as constable Narendra Raisingi was attempting to stop the vehicle, the driver suddenly accelerated. The constable was struck and landed on the bonnet, but the driver continued towards Shilaj on the SP Ring Road at high speed. Two other occupants in the car allegedly gestured to the driver to flee.
Police units pursued the vehicle. Near Hebatpur Bridge, traffic congestion forced the car to slow down, causing the constable to fall onto the road and sustain injuries. One of the occupants seated in the rear attempted to escape but was apprehended on the spot.
Sola Police have registered a case of attempted murder against three accused in connection with the incident. One of them, Prabhuji Thakor alias Bholo, a native of Banaskantha, has been arrested. The driver was identified as Idris Khan Pathan, a resident of Harij in Patan district. Another accused was also booked.
Investigators said that Idris Khan Pathan has two prior criminal cases registered against him. Prabhuji Thakor is also reported to have a case related to liquor offences. The injured constable is out of danger, and further investigation is underway. DeshGujarat
