Relief for motorists of South Gujarat: Chikhli to Vadodara now in just 2 hours via Kharel Interchange
January 17, 2026
Chikhli/Valsad: In a significant relief to motorists of South Gujarat, travel time between Chikhli in South Gujarat and Vadodara in Central Gujarat has been drastically reduced to just around two hours following the opening of entry to the expressway from the newly developed Kharel Interchange on NH-48. This has become possible due to opening of entire stretch of Delhi-Mumbai Expressway from Vadodara to Gandeva.
Motorists travelling from Chikhli will now have to proceed about 15 kilometers ahead on National Highway-48, where the Kharel Interchange has been developed just 600 meters to the right of the existing Kharel intersection. From this interchange, vehicles can directly enter the expressway and travel smoothly towards Vadodara and Ahmedabad.
Until now, commuters faced considerable delays due to heavy traffic congestion on NH-48, making travel between Chikhli and Vadodara time-consuming and exhausting. With the operationalization of this new entry point, the journey has become faster and more convenient.
Officials and local transport experts stated that opening of Kharel Interchange will not only save travel time but also reduce fuel consumption for motorists. The improved connectivity is expected to benefit daily commuters, especially employees from Valsad district who frequently travel towards Vadodara.
Business communities in Vapi and Valsad are also expected to gain from this development, as smoother connectivity will facilitate quicker movement of people and goods. Local residents have welcomed the move, calling it a major infrastructure boost for South Gujarat.
The new expressway is being seen as a key step in strengthening regional connectivity and easing traffic pressure on the overburdened old national highway 48. DeshGujarat
