Kenyan woman booked in Ahmedabad for staying in India on fake passport

Ahmedabad: A Kenyan national was found living in the Naroda area using a forged passport and falsified identity documents, police said. The woman had been staying at various hotels by manipulating documents taken from her friend’s passport. Naroda Police have registered a case against both women and launched a detailed investigation.

The matter came to light after the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) alerted police that a foreign woman was residing at Hotel Nova Blue near Nana Chiloda using a fake visa. Acting on the information, police traced and detained the woman from the hotel.

During questioning, she identified herself as Salim Sumaiya Mohammed, claiming to be a Tanzanian citizen. Although the passport produced mentioned Tanzania as the country of origin, the photograph did not match her identity, raising suspicion.

Subsequent verification revealed that her real name is Arching Rebecca Awur, a resident of Kenya. She had entered India in 2022 on a one-month tourist visa, which expired the same year.

Police investigations further revealed that after the visa lapsed, she allegedly procured a forged Tanzanian passport with the assistance of her friend Salim Sumaiya, who resides in Gurugram, Haryana. Using the fake documents, the Kenyan woman continued to stay in India illegally while moving between different hotels.

Naroda Police have registered an offence against both women under relevant sections and are continuing further investigation into the matter. DeshGujarat
