Chilly winds sweep parts of Gujarat; minimum temperature touches 5°C

Ahmedabad: The city and several parts of Gujarat witnessed chilly winds on Friday night and a noticeable dip in temperatures over the past 24 hours. After being on an upward trajectory for the last couple of days, both day and night temperatures dropped below normal across several regions, indicating intensifying winter conditions in the state.

According to the weather report issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) this morning, maximum temperatures across most districts were recorded 1°C to 5°C below normal, while minimum temperatures in many areas also showed a significant fall.

Naliya in Kutch recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 5.0°C, which was 5.3°C below normal, making it the coldest location in the state. Meanwhile, Bhuj recorded 9.8°C, and north Gujarat’s Deesa also reported a sharply lower night temperature of 8.4°C.

In Saurashtra, cold conditions prevailed, with Amreli recording a minimum of 9.4°C, Rajkot 9.5°C, and Porbandar 10.2°C, all remaining well below seasonal averages. Day temperatures in these regions were also suppressed by 3°C to 4°C compared to normal levels.

Major cities reported mild but persistent cold. Ahmedabad recorded a maximum temperature of 26.6°C, which was 1.4°C below normal, while the minimum settled at 12.5°C. Gandhinagar reported a minimum of 11.0°C, nearly 2°C below normal. Vadodara also witnessed a chilly night, with the mercury dropping to 12.8°C.

Coastal districts remained relatively warmer but still cooler than usual. Surat recorded a minimum temperature of 14.2°C, Veraval 14.3°C, and UT Diu 15.0°C, though daytime temperatures continued to remain below average.

Relative humidity levels at 0830 IST ranged between 37% and 77% across the state, with no rainfall reported from any station during the past 24 hours.

Meteorological officials said the prevailing cold conditions are due to northerly winds and clear sky conditions, which are allowing temperatures to drop during nighttime hours. Similar weather is expected to continue over the next 24 hours, with chilly mornings likely in several parts of Gujarat. DeshGujarat
