January 30, 2026
Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad is steadily moving forward with preparations for the upcoming Commonwealth Games, with the Municipal Corporation developing modern sports infrastructure across the city. As part of this initiative, a state-of-the-art sports complex has been constructed in the Vastral ward of the city’s eastern zone.
Built on a sprawling 43,890 square metre plot along the SP Ring Road, the advanced sports complex has been developed at a cost of Rs 58.68 crore. The facility includes a wide range of indoor and outdoor sports amenities, along with a library, gymnasium, and cafeteria. Officials said the complex will be opened to the public after completion of the tender process and formal inauguration in the coming days.
Modern outdoor and indoor facilities
The Vastral sports complex offers several outdoor facilities, including a 400-metre grassy athletic track, a full-sized football ground, four outdoor tennis courts, long jump and triple jump areas, and dedicated parking space for visitors.
The project comprises two main buildings, a library block and an indoor sports complex. The library and cafeteria are centrally air-conditioned and can accommodate around 120 children.
The indoor sports complex includes basement parking for approximately 91 two-wheelers and 40 four-wheelers. The ground floor houses a table tennis hall with space for six tables, along with a swimming pool supported by a filtration plant. Facilities such as coach rooms, changing rooms, and toilet blocks have also been provided. A seating gallery for 100 spectators has been developed on the first floor for swimming events.
Multi-purpose sports halls and gym amenities
The two-storey complex features a gymnasium equipped with steam, sauna, and Jacuzzi facilities. A multi-purpose sports hall has been designed for activities such as yoga, martial arts, judo, karate, aerobics, boxing, and floor exercises, along with supporting washroom facilities.
On the second floor, a multi-purpose court has been developed to host games like badminton, volleyball, and basketball. A spectator gallery with seating capacity for 176 people has been constructed on the third floor.
Special features of the football ground
A key highlight of the complex is the 105 m x 68 m grassy football field, equipped with fixed and movable goalposts. A sprinkler system has been installed for turf maintenance, and the field is surrounded by a 400-metre running track. Stormwater drainage lines have also been laid to ensure proper water disposal during the monsoon season, along with a synthetic long jump track nearby.
With such modern facilities, the Vastral sports complex is expected to serve as a major boost for athletes and citizens alike, strengthening Ahmedabad’s sports infrastructure ahead of major international events. DeshGujarat
